Session #54: Tactical Session Reduced Numbers
Designing A Tactical Session With 12 Players
Welcome to The Patient Build Up! If you love the World Game you’ve landed in the right place. You’re here but haven’t subscribed?! Let me help you with that..
At the start of every piece For Coaches, I will give a couple of recommendations that have helped me or caught my attention. It will be anything from online articles, podcasts or books. This week I want to share two articles:
Kewell’s first Aussie interview in new coaching role, what happened in Japan & surprise A-League update: A nice interview with Aussie legend Harry Kewel, who is now coaching in Vietnam. He speaks with great honesty about his various experiences since retiring from playing and taking up coaching.
“It’s very hard to find a job, first and foremost, in football because all of a sudden every single person wants to be a football manager”
For Coaches: How James Beeston Prepares Players for the Cat-and-Mouse Game of Deception: In this article, we can see a video of James coaching two young players through an unopposed exercise. Very interesting listening to how he coaches “deception” in their actions.
You’re invited to join over 150 coaches from around the world.
Why?
Connecting with coaches from different cultures and backgrounds could expand your approach to coaching, enhance your skills, and ultimately make you the best coach you can be for your players.
Welcome to For Coaches on The Patient Build Up. Every week you will find educational content here that you can use in your own environment. The aim of this content - be it sessions, methodology ideas or general advice - will be to provide theoretical knowledge that coaches can adapt to their own environment. I will try my best to make sure that everything that goes in this section is as objective as possible and always taking football as the starting point. In fact I encourage all who read this section to reflect on it and understand how it fits into his or her environment. In simple terms understand the abilities and inabilities of your players and adjust it accordingly. Always remember that the players should be at the forefront of what we coaches do.
This week I want to share a session I recently delivered with a small group of players. Due to injuries and absences, I had to prepare a match (MD-1) with only 12 players. In this session, I want to share how I was able to prepare our Deny Opponent Build Up & Build Up phase with these reduced numbers.
1. Deny Opponent Build Up Phase - 7v4 Overload Game
ORGANISATION:
11 players divided in 2 teams - one of 7 and one of 4.
Playing area: Full width x 40m long. Line of engagement 10m in front of 18 yard box.
3 small goals positioned as in image.
Footballs with coaches either side of the 2 wide small goals.
